Recovery Time For LASIK
LASIK recovery is typically short. Although everyone’s vision is different, most people resume driving, going to work, and participating in their day-to-day life the following day after surgery.
Common Experiences After LASIK
It’s normal to have mild irritation, light sensitivity, and tearing for the first few hours after your procedure.
Expect blurry or foggy vision after surgery, followed by an improvement in vision quality throughout the day. It is normal for your vision to fluctuate for the first month.
Follow-Up Appointments During Recovery From LASIK Eye Surgery
One-Day Follow-Up
All Durrie Vision patients have a follow-up exam to check on your progress the day after your surgery. You must have a driver for your one-day post-op appointment, but most patients are cleared to drive at this time.
Additional Exams
Our doctors follow up on your progress with regular visits throughout the year to ensure your procedure’s success. You are also welcome to call us with questions.
How to Support a Healthy LASIK Recovery Time.
Do:
- Do remember to blink. Your eyes will be numb for 20 to 30 minutes post-op.
- Do use preservative-free artificial tears frequently. These cannot be overused!
- Do wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from wind and sun.
- Do take NSAIDS (ibuprofen or naproxen) or acetaminophen as needed.
- Do wear shields when sleeping for two nights after your procedure.
- Do relax after surgery. You may take a nap if you wish.
Don't:
- Don’t rub or bump your eyes.
- Be careful with the tip of the dropper when instilling eye drops.
Restrictions During Your Recovery From LASIK
Return to driving if you feel confident in your vision after your one-day exam.
Return to work as comfort allows.
Shower and bathe with caution. Avoid soap or water in eyes.
You can wear makeup after your one-day exam, but be careful when applying or removing it.
There are no restrictions with lifting weights or exercise after you are cleared at your one-day post-op.
Do not swim in a pool for one week.
While swimming, wear goggles during the second week and return to normal by the third week.
No swimming or watersports in a lake or ocean for one month.
