What to Expect From Refractive Lens Exchange
When you visit Durrie Vision for your free consultation, we’ll answer your questions, address your concerns, and complete our comprehensive eye exam, called an Advanced Ocular Analysis. Together, we can decide which kind of IOLs will work best for your vision goals.
Your procedure takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. On the day of your RLE procedure, you can treat both eyes.
How Does Refractive Lens Exchange Work?
During refractive lens exchange, we invite you to relax in our private, inviting, comfortable treatment room for your procedure.
- We gently remove your natural lens with an extremely small incision.
- We replace your natural lens with your customized IOL.
- We prescribe antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops to support recovery.
Does RLE Hurt?
Patients typically experience mild pressure and minimal discomfort during the procedure. RLE does not hurt. We provide local anesthesia in the form of numbing eye drops. We also offer a mild sedative, if needed, to calm your nerves. We also ensure you feel comfortable in every way by creating a soothing office environment, along with drinks, snacks, peaceful lighting, and music.
